The three department of this faculty are described briefly as the followings
Software falls under applied computer science category where software an important part of computer science study. It requires more technical and scientific education. Software types are varying so widely and cannot be limited to some specific type but its study has some principles and rules where by learning them students can design and develop different kinds of software. In this department basic theories and principle of software engineering are being teaching. In addition, it requires some basic science too such as mathematics, physics and logics which are correspondingly accommodated. The graduates from this department will obtain professional knowledge, technical skills of related field. They will be able to work as software engineers, writing different computer programs, managing software systems, developing web applications and managerial programs.
By increasing number populations, extending organizations and advancing technologies, the volume of information also rapidly increasing. For example, if we go 10 years back from today the volume of entry examination (KONKOR) of Afghanistan was much lease the today, which was even possible to be processed by hand but today it has significantly increased and is impossible to handed manually. Imagine such scenarios in all areas of market. Therefore, the government or companies have to invest a huge amount of budget for IT and developing information systems. Thus, they need for more IT professionals and experts by any single step the put toward utilizing information technology.
Therefore, the graduate form this field have chance to work as information system administrators, information systems designer and developer, information engineering and several other areas. Furthermore, they will be ready to do their master degree or even beyond that.
Operations and running of large technical systems like Telecom & communication systems, Internet systems, local networks, banking networks and media are based on some technological expertise. In essence, those systems are building up on deep knowledge of technologies and being governed by very sophisticated technological standards. Therefore, it causes a professional study to become ready for managing and designing such system. In this department we train the fundamentals of theory and practices of managing, administering such systems and teaching the principles of designing large data networks introducing key standards of technologies.
The graduates from this department will be able to work at different areas of IT market to design, develop, manage and administer the information technological systems. They also will be able to diagnoses technical problems of large systems and also knows how to uses correct technology in job place.
Teaching and practice in computer science faculty have been set according to MoHE standards and aligned with general national higher education systems. One teaching year divided into two study semesters, and each semester takes 16 weeks teaching period and 4weeks for mid-term and final exams, totally 20 weeks. One four-weeks short course is following each semester, to help the students who failed in some credits to improve their scores.
Teaching subject by subject is different from one subject to another. E.g. some subjects need double work such lectures and laboratories but some are not. In both cases in credit guideline each type of course is defined and the number credits are calculated in curriculum, semester wise. Commonly, a lecture class has four important components such as: slides-presentation, reference book, handouts and assignments. Likely a course that is practicum or other types such as thesis work is given exact values for each single credit which defines its time duration. The responsible professor for each course has to write a course plan / policy to confirm that he or she follows the defined syllabuses programed for corresponding course. Each course has officially 3 ways of evaluation first per lecture 10% assignments, second 30 % midterm exam and 60% final exam.
Handling all tasks related to a course is part of in-charged professor. He or she will perform all tasks according to schedule and report the result to the faculty. Moreover, the in-charge professor has some extra academic responsibilities that are also regulated in clear guideline which are more intended to improve teaching services qualities and also improves faculty’s research background. In summary, the faculty of Computer Science is teaching computer science at three departments. The activities and operations line is paved by three directions of activities like formal education, research and professional trainings. The faculty has believed to public developments via its commitment to stand quality services and responsible accomplishment of its responsibilities. It also believes that by achieving its defined goals it will be known as distinguished faculty countrywide and also in the region. Finally, faculty leadership is committed that together with Zawul leadership work with full potential to take right decisions, take appropriate actions and offer best services to fully achieve its goals and do serve the society to accomplish their prophetic mission.
